#1 Reason Your Deer Hunting Property Sucks!
Ever notice how some deer hunting properties are great and others suck? There is a lot of factors but lets go over what I believe is the main issue.
Everyone wants that dream deer hunting property that just produces good bucks each year. To be honest there is those properties out there. They are out there for sure. But there is a lot of factors that can define those types of properties.
Obviously quality habitat plays a huge part in this. Having very good access, quality food and good cover are very important. But what if there is another factor that we cant control?
Bad neighbors
I say bad neighbors but most the time they aren’t “bad” they are just doing something different then us. They may be using ATV’s to access there own land or may be using poor access and such. Even though that is not ideal its there land and they can do what they want.
What your neighbors do has a direct effect on your land especially if the hunting property you own is super small. The bigger the land is the more room for error.
Now in big woods settings where all the neighbors land is directly connected to yours makes it even worse. What they do drastically effects your own land. We can make all the improvements we want but if the neighbors are doing “bad” things it will have a ripple effect onto your own land.
Yes making quality cover and bedding areas will help for sure. Deer will usually find a place to bed away from danger but they still have to get up to travel to a food source. Having quality food will also help.
Now if you are in Ag areas where the properties are separated by fields and such then what the neighbors do wont have to much impact.
The point is some of those properties just have that ability to produce and some don’t. We can make improvements but if the neighbors are messing it up for you hunting property lines and blasting ATV’s all over and you just don’t have success maybe its better to just move on and find a new place.
Do not get your hopes up. realize we can make it better we can have better food and cover for better success. But sometimes we have to look outside the box and realize things are sometimes out of our control.
